On a recent hiking expedition in the Scottish highlands I came across some litter on the otherwise pristine path.
I tutted.
Walking on I thought that somebody really should pick that up….
In an earlier article I wrote:
‘The standard you walk past is the standard you accept’
But now I see it goes deeper than that.
The standard you walk past shows who you are BEing.
I could have picked up that litter but chose not to.
And in that moment I moved from Owner to Victim. A victim of others. I relinquished my power and became part of the problem.
Ghandi famously said
‘Be the change you want to see in the world.’
I think he meant
BE the change you want to see in the world.
It literally starts with me, who am I BEing? Who I am BEing dictates what I am DOing
And what I am DOing is constantly creating my experience.
And in this case it was a world where others dropped litter and it wasn’t my problem.
